A light blue Alfa Romeo 156 with a registration similar to KJ51COU was noted in the Antrim area yesterday afternoon. This vehicle was believed to be in the vicinity of an earlier distraction burglary.
Police wish to identify the occupants as part of their enquiries.

Suspicious Vehicles / Rogue Traders
Reported that a red transit EFZ2645 in the area of Ballinderry Road Aghalee yesterday (20/10/2011) at approx 11.45am. A leaflet was left at the property referring to THOMPSON CLEANING SERVICES. The vehicle was cold calling and may be a possible rogue trader.
There was also a suspicious blue van calling to houses in the area on Tuesday 18th, advertising steam cleaning services, 2 x males with southern accents. Given recent burglaries / thefts please be wary of any strangers involved in such activity and report details to police if concerned.

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact the m on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).
DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

Suspicious Vehicle
Report early this morning (around 7am) of a 4x4 type vehicle acting suspiciously in the Burnpipe Lane, Burren area of Ballynahinch. Registration similar to TJI6500. No offences identified but if sighted in the area consider notifying police to aid identification and ensure nothing untoward.
Please be mindful of bogus callers and ensure any strangers identify themselves properly if calling at your home.
Oil Thefts
With the colder weather approaching oil deliveries are on the up and likewise the possibility of oil thefts. Most reputable firms use logos on their delivery vehicles. Please ensure where possible oil tanks are locked and secured. Any suspicious activity around oil tanks should be reported especially if you note a neighbour has already received an oil delivery.
Arrests
After a report of suspicious activity involving 3 males tampering with cars in the Clonmore Park area of Lisburn police responded and identified the suspects and made 3 arrests on burglary related offences.

Criminals forced entry to a property in the Killeaton Crescent area of Derriaghy yesterday. Entry was forced through a bath room window.
Did you note any unfamiliar persons in the area of any suspicious activity or vehicles? If so please contact police with details.
Given the current value of scrap metals this makes vacant properties, yards, cabling etc ideal opportunities for roaming thieves.

Firework Safety
• When buying fireworks, make sure they comply with BS 7114 and are clearly marked for their intended use “Indoor, Garden or Display”
• Keep fireworks in a sealed box or tin.
• NEVER put fireworks in your pocket or anyone else’s.
• Read the instructions carefully, using a torch or a hand lamp. Never use a naked flame.
• Light fireworks at arms length using a taper or a firework lighter.
• Stand well back and NEVER return to a firework after it has been lit.
• Always supervise children around fireworks.
• NEVER throw fireworks.
• Keep all pets and animal indoors.
• Don’t set off noisy fireworks late at night and never after 11 pm.
Sparklers
• These are often viewed as being harmless but they do burn at fierce temperatures. To a young child, the heat from a sparkler is equivalent to the heat from a welding torch.
• Never give sparklers to young children under five.
• Always wear gloves with sparklers, preferably leather ones.
• Hold it at arms length and always have an adult light it.
• Never wave sparklers about near anyone else as you could burn them.
• Never hold a baby in your arms when you are holding a sparkler.
• When the sparkler has finished, put it into a bucket of cold water straight away.

• Fireworks cannot and should not be bought in Northern Ireland without a licence. The only exceptions will be Category 1 i.e. sparklers and indoor fireworks.

• Fireworks of erratic flight, mini-rockets, bangers and air bombs are illegal.
• The cost of a fireworks licence is £30. When applying for one you must specify who is using the fireworks.
• Fireworks should not be fired between the hours of 11.00 pm and 7.00 am

Burglary and suspicious Vehicle - all areas
Burglary
Around 930pm yesterday evening a burglary was reported in the Crumlin Road area of Ballinderry. The owner arrived home to find a glass panel removed, the house entered and a number of items of jewellery had been stolen.
At 1030pm a burglary was also reported in Ballinderry Road. Again items of jewellery had been stolen after the house was entered through a athroom window.
Did you note any strangers or unfamiliar vehicles in the area? If so please contact police with details.
There have been a number of distraction burglaries throughout the area / province. It is believed a large saloon car possibly a black Audi may be involved.
At approx. 11:00hrs on Friday 2nd September 2011 a burglary occurred at Crewe Park Road, Glenavy .
There were reports of a black Audi car, registration similar to LS56NCN in the vicinity, at the time of the incident. Any sightings of this vehicle should be reported to police.

D District Community Safety Message
Sept 2011 `Creeper Burglary` Alert
A `Creeper Burglary` is when the thief targets a house with a view to breaking in, when the householders are asleep or out of the house but close by, to steal car keys and other property and leave in the householders car.
Unfortunately across D District some have occurred.
Police would offer you the following advice on how to prevent it;-
1 Always ensure you lock all windows and doors in your home when working outside, going out or going to bed at night.
2 If you have a house alarm, use it – even if going out for short periods of time.
3 When you go to bed alarm the downstairs
4 Security lighting can be a BIG deterrent for the burglar
5 Secure property normally outside the home, such as bicycles, garden tools, sheds, etc with good quality locks or remove altogether.
6 Never leave car keys, handbags, mobile phones or house keys downstairs at night.
7 Don’t keep large amounts of cash at home
8 You should always mark personal property such as electrical goods etc with UV pen – (Postcode & House number) or smart water
9 If you see something suspicious, report it IMMEDIATELY to police on 0845 600 8000
10 If you see a crime in progress, ring 999 IMMEDIATELY
Unfortunately a high number of domestic burglaries are through insecure doors or windows (This may affect your insurance claims)
