Scam - General - "Euro City Lotto"
Recently, a Lisburn resident received a letter from a company called “EUROU CITY LOTTO”, informing him that he had won a large prize in the Spanish Sweepstake. Included with the letter was a “Payment Processing Form”. This form contained a section for Bank details, including the bank name, account number, sort-code and address.
If you receive ANY such correspondence, PLEASE DO NOT complete these details. This is a “Scam”, and unfortunately members of the public are being defrauded. If you were to return your bank details to the Fax number provided, before you could change your mind, it’s highly likely that you bank account would be “cleaned out”!
If you have any concerns about “scam” lottery letters or emails, the details can be checked out on the Internet.
These unscrupulous criminals often specifically target elderly and vulnerable members of the public. Please make sure that friends, relatives and neighbours are warned about this activity.
Merry Christmas!

CSN - Christmas Bulletin
Just a short message to thank all those who have contributed to Lisburn CSN over the past year both in practice and by way of new members coming on board.
The crime prevention and alert ethos has been notably reflected in the manner of calls made to Lisburn Police over the last twelve months and in the excellent results in the reduction of crime in our area.
However, such praise has little effect on those who seek to profit from your efforts in the year as they will continue to fund their own Christmas by way of burglary and thefts.
No doubt the Christmas tree is now surrounded with parcels and packages, last minute shopping will be in the car and ATM's will be in full flow.
Please continue to ensure property and vehicles are locked and secure. Where possible store gifts form view and keep wallets, purses and handbags out of reach of would be thieves.
Queues are long and tempers are short out there at the moment - please be patient and administer a bit of "goodwill to all"!
Most of all please enjoy your "festive cheer" responsibly (no domestics please) and remember the night before can influence the morning after. No drinking and driving!
All said and done may I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year in 2009 and that for the next few days at least please make this job an unnecessary one.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY

All Areas - "Finders Keepers"
Since Friday approximately 12 incidents were reported of the loss of benefits cheques / cash in Dunmurry and North Lisburn. These cheques were to the total value of £1300.
Since April 2008 there have been 106 reported incidents of the loss of benefits cash and cheques to the value of approximately £17,400 in the Lisburn / Dunmurry area.
No doubt each of these losses will have almost immediately been cashed or spent by the unscrupulous finders!
This means a double payout by the taxpayers - you. This is because the criminal forging the signatures for the cheque payments or spending the found cash benefits but the victim of the loss also requires re-imbursement for loss of their benefits.
Should you locate any such benefit cheques or large amounts of cash in the Lisburn North area or in the vicinity of the Stewartstown Road area of Dunmurry where the vast majority of reported losses occur please notify the relevant authorities of the find and hand the cheques or cash into the police or the local DHSS offices.

All Areas - general warning - telephone callers
The lady was well aware that this information was incorrect (& knew who her local Community Police Officers were) and challenged the caller who became somewhat irate and hung up.
AT NO TIME DID THE CALLER MENTION ANY PAYMENT METHOD AND SEEMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE GROUP OR ITS LEADER WHO HE FIRSTLY CALLED BY A WRONG NAME. This was obviously a bogus call.
Please take care when conducting financial matters on the phone and be aware of scams. Identify the caller and ensure you have a contact number and means of identifying the caller and their organisation.
