Finders Keepers
Since Friday approximately 12 incidents were reported of the loss of benefits cheques / cash in Dunmurry and North Lisburn. These cheques were to the total value of £1300.
Since April 2008 there have been 106 reported incidents of the loss of benefits cash and cheques to the value of approximately £17,400 in the Lisburn / Dunmurry area.
No doubt each of these losses will have almost immediately been cashed or spent by the unscrupulous finders!
This means a double payout by the taxpayers - you. This is because the criminal forging the signatures for the cheque payments or spending the found cash benefits but the victim of the loss also requires re-imbursement for loss of their benefits.
Should you locate any such benefit cheques or large amounts of cash in the Lisburn North area or in the vicinity of the Stewartstown Road area of Dunmurry where the vast majority of reported losses occur please notify the relevant authorities of the find and hand the cheques or cash into the police or the local DHSS offices.
