A male with a NI accent (not well spoken) contacted a local group stating he was a community police officer SHANE LYNCH. He informed the group leader that she had agreed some months earlier to contribute £90 to the community year book.
The lady was well aware that this information was incorrect (& knew who her local Community Police Officers were) and challenged the caller who became somewhat irate and hung up.
AT NO TIME DID THE CALLER MENTION ANY PAYMENT METHOD AND SEEMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE GROUP OR ITS LEADER WHO HE FIRSTLY CALLED BY A WRONG NAME. This was obviously a bogus call.
Please take care when conducting financial matters on the phone and be aware of scams. Identify the caller and ensure you have a contact number and means of identifying the caller and their organisation.
